Thousands flock to Dumbarton for Scottish Pipe Band Championships' 25th year

Thousands of spectators enjoyed the sights and sounds of traditional music at the 25th Scottish Pipe Band Championships on Saturday.

The sun was shining as 120 pipe bands from around the world descended on Levengrove Park for the event.

And after a day of intense competition, which saw Scottish and UK bands going up against bands from further afield including Australia and Oman, Inveraray and District were crowned Grade 1 Champions.

The band was presented with their award before they led the rest of the bands in a parade to round off the day.

Chieftain of the event, West Dunbartonshire’s Provost Douglas McAllister, said: “What a fantastic day we’ve had marking 25 years of this event. I am delighted that this event, hosted in partnership with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, has been another outstanding success.

“The day was full of tradition, excitement, fun and of course intense competition for the participants – and with the addition of a bit of sunshine, I know all who attended thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Over the past 25 years, the Scottish Pipe Band Championships has become one of the highlights of our events calendar and a wonderful family day out – this year has been no different. Levengrove Park is the perfect stage to host this event and to showcase what West Dunbartonshire has to offer, not only during the championships but all year round.”
