Thomas Tuchel ‘frustrated’ by Chelsea owners failing to sign Gabriel Jesus ahead of Arsenal

Thomas Tuchel was left frustrated by Chelsea’s owners over their failure to sign Gabriel Jesus ahead of Arsenal, according to reports.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

Tuchel was sacked on Wednesday less than 24 hours after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

The German’s departure comes following weeks of tension between himself and the club’s new co-owner Todd Boehly, who played a key role in Chelsea’s transfer business this summer.

It’s understood that Boehly was unhappy with Tuchel’s lack of input and communication regarding transfers, with the German keen to focus more on coaching his squad.

The Athletic report that Tuchel was initially against signing a new striker during the summer transfer after his difficulties with Romelu Lukaku last season, however, after U-turning on his stance, the 49-year-old was ‘frustrated’ that Chelsea’s hierarchy did not move for Jesus.

It’s claimed that Jesus was even keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but the Brazil international ended up being reunited with Mikel Arteta as Arsenal sealed a £45 million deal with Manchester City.

Tuchel subsequently pushed for Chelsea to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and that move was completed in the final few hours of the window.

Boehly was also keen on the idea of signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United but The Athletic report that Tuchel made it clear ‘in no uncertain terms’ that he was against the 37-year-old’s arrival at Chelsea.

Boehly is also understood to be unhappy with Tuchel over his lack of help in convincing Raphinha and Jules Kounde to join Chelsea this summer.

Tuchel, meanwhile, was frustrated over Chelsea’s failure to sign Frenkie de Jong and Presnel Kimpembe, who were two of his recommendations.
