Thomas Tuchel escapes Roman Abramovich red flags as Chelsea announce Todd Boehly consortium

There is an asterisk around this season and the question is: would Thomas Tuchel have survived Roman Abramovich? Some fans have suggested that the German is actually lucky that the Russian oligarch was sanctioned before witnessing an underwhelming end to the season.

Thomas Tuchel has a Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup to his name since joining the Blues in January last year. It's absolutely ludicrous to even think about sacking him. It just wouldn't make sense. However, there are many sackings that Chelsea managers have endured that did not make sense. Tuchel can put his trophies on the table but Abramovich could still make the observation that Chelsea's seasonal objectives have not necessarily been met.

Chelsea enter a new era where Todd Boehly could change the status quo. Tuchel could be Chelsea's manager for a long time to come, yet.

For the record, I would be furious at the thought of Thomas Tuchel leaving the club. I envision him as a Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp for Chelsea. It's actually fortunate that he had been given enough downtime to really assess the team without the pressure of being sacked from up top.

Of course, his future remains uncertain even with new ownership confirmation; however, I doubt that Todd Boehly would have any issues with these red flags. Judging by the reported £200million green light to rebuild this Chelsea side from Boehly himself, Tuchel has little to worry about at the moment.
