'This morning...' - Sky Sports drop 'serious' live on-air update regarding Leeds and Bielsa

Marcelo Bielsa’s position as Leeds United manager is in ‘serious doubt’, according to Sky Sports.

The Whites fell to another heavy defeat on Saturday, with Tottenham scoring four at Elland Road in what could now be Bielsa’s last game in charge.

Leeds became the first Premier League side to concede 20 goals in a calendar month and suffered a third straight home league defeat for the first time since 2017. [LUFCDATA]

With teams around them picking up points on Saturday as well, Leeds are now just two points off the relegation zone with 12 games left to play.

Sky Sports presenter Adam Smith said this live on air on Sunday morning regarding the Argentine:

‘Marcelo Bielsa’s managerial reign at Elland Road looks to be coming to an end this morning…’

Smith added that Bielsa’s future as Leeds manager is in ‘serious doubt’ following the defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a move for former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch is in the ‘final stages’, so it appears as if the Leeds board are taking a huge gamble by making a managerial change so late in the season.

There’s no guarantee the American will turn things around at Elland Road, although Phil Hay has stated previously that possession-based football and focus on a high press may well make for a smooth transition.

Hay was writing earlier this month with a view to Marsch taking over in the summer, but it seems as if the 48-year-old may be needed much sooner to help the Whites stay in the Premier League.
