'This club stands alone' – Why Leicester City don't need Europe for transfers

Leicester City can attract top talents even if they do not have European football to offer, manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted.

While City's hopes of getting into Europe through their final Premier League position are practically if not mathematically over, they can still qualify through the Conference League. Glory in the competition earns a spot in next season’s Europa League.

Full-back Timothy Castagne said last week that City's fate in the Conference League will be a “big thing” for the club’s transfer business in the summer, both in terms of bringing players in and retaining those already at the club. But Rodgers disagrees and believes City have plenty more to offer beyond continental football.

“Over the history of Leicester City there haven’t been too many issues in signing players,” he said. “The club have only been in Europe for the past few seasons, it’s never stopped them being able to sign good players before.

“We would love to be in Europe, but if not, I still think we can attract a good level of player. We would also have more coaching time next season and hopefully we can challenge again.”

Setting out exactly why he believes City will be a good club for any prospective signing, Rodgers pointed to the team’s performance over the past couple of seasons, the £100m training base at Seagrave, and how the club looks after its staff.

He added: “Firstly, you’re playing in the most competitive league, you’re in a team that wants to be competitive, when you look at our recent history, you can see we predominantly are that.
