Opinion: Will international call-up influence Celtic star’s big decision?

Congratulations are in order to Celtic centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, who recently received his first international call-up in three years for the United States.

The defender, who was on loan at Celtic last season from Tottenham, was excellent for the Hoops as he helped the Bhoys win the league and Premier Sports Cup.

The player has a decision to make about his future in the near future, and that is to either return to Celtic Park – on another loan or permanent deal – or have a different challenge next season, most likely at a club in England.

Celtic will be hoping though that the international call-up will have an impact on the player’s decision.

Perhaps Carter-Vickers will think that as he is back in the international fold, due to his performances in Glasgow, that will encourage him to return to the Hoops – that is what Celtic will be hoping.

With the Hoops in the Champions League group stages next season, Carter-Vickers could stay in the America squad if he performs well in the biggest club competition in European football.

Carter-Vickers has transformed his career at Celtic, and the Hoops will no doubt be working hard in discussions with both the player and Tottenham about getting a deal done to ensure that Carter-Vickers is back in the green and white Hoops next season.

You have to imagine that a decision will be made by the player regarding his future sooner rather than later. But he doesn’t deserve criticism if he takes his time, as it is a big decision for Carter-Vickers.

For Celtic it would be disappointing if the 24-year-old doesn’t return, as his partnership with Carl Starfelt has been exceptional and there is no guarantee
