"They are hopeful" – Journalist now drops promising Celtic transfer update on "outstanding" ace

Celtic ‘are hopeful’ that they can sign defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old joined the Hoops on a season-long loan from parent club Tottenham Hotspur back in August in a deal believed to include a £10 million option to buy.

According to Sky Sports, the Scottish Premiership side intend to trigger Carter-Vickers’ option-to-buy clause after impressing manager Ange Postecoglou throughout the current campaign.

It’s claimed that talks between Celtic and Spurs are based around the structure of any potential permanent deal, while there is reportedly no wriggle-room on the overall price for the USA international, who was described as “outstanding” by teammate Greg Taylor.

And it’s unsurprising that Postecoglou is keen to secure the centre-back’s services in the long-term as he’s already established himself as a pivotal figure in the heart of Celtic’s backline.

Carter-Vickers has made 37 appearances for the Glasgow giants across all competitions, scoring three goals in his 25 top-flight outings and helping to record the best defensive record in the division.

As per WhoScored, he has also won more aerial duels than any of his teammates per league game throughout 2021/22, averaging 4.3, and also ranks inside the top three for interceptions, clearances and blocks with tallies of 1.2, 4.4 and 0.4, respectively.

Although Celtic have the option to sign Carter-Vickers when the market reopens, they are expected to face fierce competition for his signature.
