"There will be interest" – Journalist drops claim as Tottenham ace shines on international duty

Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn is expected to attract ‘interest’ in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old was close to departing Spurs in January after struggling for regular game time in recent months and has been widely tipped to finally complete his exit when the market reopens for business.

Bergwijn arrived on English shores as an exciting young prospect following his £27 million switch from PSV Eindhoven back in January 2020.

The Netherlands international had won three Eredivisie titles with his boyhood club and made an instant impact with Tottenham, scoring a memorable goal on his debut in a 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

He started just 13 Premier League games throughout 2020/21, registering just one goal and seven assists in his 35 appearances across all competitions.

And opportunities have been even harder to come by for Bergwijn in the current campaign.

In total, the skilful forward has made 25 outings, but only four of those have come as starts in the top-flight and just one has come under the tutelage of new manager Antonio Conte.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed during the winter window that Ajax had seen a €35 million (£20.8m) bid rejected for Bergwijn after Conte decided he wanted to keep hold of the player.
