'There's plenty of frustration' - Tony Smith weighs in on Super League disciplinary situation

Tony Smith has called for clarity on the disciplinary situation in Super League after Hull KR's frustrations boiled over against Catalans Dragons.

The current rules have been under the spotlight in the opening six rounds as officials clamp down on perceived foul play.

A spate of yellow cards for seemingly innocuous challenges has left fans, pundits, players and coaches scratching their heads.

Smith became the latest coach to voice his concerns after watching his KR side lose their way in Perpignan on the back of some debatable decisions.

"There's plenty of frustration at the moment within our sport," said Smith, Super League's most experienced coach.

"There's frustration about interpretations. I've always been a big advocate of making our game safe but there's some confusion about some of the interpretations.

"We need to get that sorted in the next little while because there's certainly frustration from players and you hear it from coaches all over the weekend, and spectators and supporters.

"There's a lot of confusion about some of that so of course it's going to spill over onto the field. Unless they're getting clarity in how things are interpreted, how do you go about it?

"Frustration did creep in but we've got to keep control of that and stop that frustration creeping into some of our execution and attack.

"We're taking ownership of our own performance. I'm not an excuse maker and am not blaming officials; we need to be better in order to cope with those frustrating situations at times."

The biggest talking point on Friday night was the decision to sin bin Mitchell Pearce for a nasty-looking spear tackle on Will Dagger.
