Hull KR coach Tony Smith hails Matt Parcell contribution as he explains Jordan Abdull absence

Tony Smith was pleased to see Hull KR deliver their most complete performance of the season to date in the 34-18 win over Warrington Wolves.

Rovers did not look back after racing into a 20-0 lead inside the opening quarter.

KR went on to outscore Warrington seven tries to three as they produced the kind of exhilarating display they had been craving.

"That's the closest to putting two halves together that we've had," said Smith.

"I thought our commitment and our defence was very, very good. I thought our composure, sticking to our plan, laid a pretty good platform for us.

"They (Warrington) are not in a good place at the moment. Executing the game plan and it coming off gave us confidence. It took away from theirs and that's the name of the game.

"We were pleased with most aspects of it and it's a better level to aim to improve on.

"It was good smart footy and good support, good running and running into the right holes. That's a bit of how we like to play and a bit closer to how we enjoy playing."

Elliot Minchella was full of energy in a hugely impressive opening spell and Lachlan Coote showed why he is regarded as one of the best full-backs in Super League, while Mikey Lewis was a threat throughout.

But the star of the show was Matt Parcell as he tormented the Wolves around the ruck.

"I felt a bit for Matty," said Smith.

"Jeez, he was trying hard to get over that tryline. He got pulled up within inches two or three times.

"He's strong and I always encourage him to run. That's his strength and it's great for the team when he does.

"Jeez, he did that tonight. He ran some metres and was strong. He troubles teams and did a good job there."
