"There’s no doing gear in bogs": Inside the sell-out party run by celebs where you can be home by tea-time

The idea of going for a party in the middle of the day and heading home for tea might be a novel idea to some, but it’s become a sell-out phenomenon in the UK.

For the last year, Day Fever has followed a pretty simple concept of providing people with a mid-afternoon party without the late-night hangover the next day. And, fronted by a bunch of famous faces, it’s proving to be a hit.

Created by Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure, filmmaker Jonny Owen, and Reverend and the Makers’ frontman Jon McLure following a discussion over WhatsApp with friends, the event now regularly sells out across the country.

Co-creator Jon, 43, said he has been blown away by the success of Day Fever in the short space of time since it first took place. “We put one on in Sheffield a year ago and it just sold out right away,” the musician tells the Manchester Evening News.

“We started putting more on and we just thought it was mad that there was so much demand for it. It’s just gone nuts. It’s just a really great event and something that’s full of positivity and good vibes.”

Now, going an extra step further, Day Fever will be heading to Manchester on December 31 for a New Year’s Eve party. Taking up residency at New Century Hall, near Victoria Station, it’ll also feature a DJ slot from Jon, who says he can’t wait to soak up the vibes of the event.

He explains: “I don’t get a chance to be at all of the events because I’m busy with the band, but when I can, I do try to get to as many of them as possible because I find it’s a workout for the soul. It’s a really good time.”
