There's a huge tourist invasion into Yorkshire's 'worst' seaside town

A beach town which finished last out of all of Yorkshire's seaside destinations in Which? magazine's 2022 guide has seen a tourism boom.

The East Yorkshire town of Bridlington increased from 3.05m between June 2020 and May 2021 to 4.9m between June 2021 and May this year, according to figures from Place Informatics, which analyses tourism footfall and behaviour.

That's an increase of 1.85m - or 61%. While the lifting of coronavirus restrictions will have played a part, Bridlington experienced the greatest percentage increase of Yorkshire's six main seaside resorts, reports YorkshireLive.

While Scarborough had the smallest percentage increase in tourist numbers, the town still saw numbers increase by more than a third (35%). It also had the greatest number of visitors (7.3m) between June 2021 and May 2022.

Down the coast, Filey enjoyed a 56% jump in tourist numbers while further north in Whitby footfall rose by 44%. Visitor numbers to Hornsea increased by 40% while numbers visiting Saltburn-by-the-Sea rose by 37%.
