Patrick Vieira responds to Crystal Palace links with Manchester United player Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Patrick Vieira has admitted that his Crystal Palace side is 'short on numbers' with Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka having been linked with a move back to his former club.

The right-back has been offered out to clubs this summer following the emergence of Diogo Dalot last season and Palace would be a suitable given their struggles to replace the 24-year-old since he left the club in 2019. The defender enjoyed a solid start to his United career but struggled last term as United slipped to sixth in the league.

The Eagles currently have Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne on their books in the position, but the pair are both over 30, and the youthful Wan-Bissaka could inject some fresh legs into a side who enjoyed a positive first season under the former Arsenal captain last season.

When asked about squad depth at his press conference ahead of his side's first match of the season, Vieira admitted that every manager would like more players in their squad, he said: "As a manager I think you always want more. So far, I’m really happy with the players we’ve managed to bring in but, obviously, we’re still pretty short on numbers."

Unsurprisingly, Vieira refused to be drawn on whether the United star was on his radar specifically, choosing to praise the players currently at his disposal, saying: "When names are going about it’s always difficult to talk about. We already have a couple of players on the right-hand-side that have done well since I’ve been at the club."
