The Undertaker: Popular WWE star was supposed to face legend at WrestleMania 32

At WWE WrestleMania 38 on April 2, Kevin Owens was defeated in the show’s main event by a returning Stone Cold Steve Austin.

This was the first time Austin had wrestled since facing The Rock at WrestleMania XIX back in 2003, so was a pretty big deal.

While he may have lost, getting to face Stone Cold in what will likely be his final ever match, after nearly 20 years out of the ring, will have been a huge moment for Owens.

However, if plans went another direction, but wouldn’t have been the first time WWE had KO face one of its biggest-ever stars at WrestleMania.

Speaking to Joe Baiamonte of The Sportsman, Owens explained that he was actually supposed to face The Undertaker the last time WWE held a WrestleMania at AT&T Stadium.

The match would have taken place at WrestleMania 32 in April 2016, but didn’t even up happening.

“Things shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned and obviously at the time my standing with the company compared to Shane coming back after all those years, the thought was probably that Shane vs The Undertaker was a huge match.“

But I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it obviously would have been amazing for my first WrestleMania to be in there with The Undertaker.

As Owens noted, the match didn’t end up happening, as WWE opted to have a returning Shane McMahon face The Undertaker.

Instead, Owens defended his Intercontinental Championship on the show in a ladder match which also featured Sami Zayn, The Miz, Stardust, Sin Cara, Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler.

The match was won by Ryder, but he went on to drop the Intercontinental title the following night on Monday Night Raw to The Miz.
