The six current Hearts players who could miss Euro cut line as Steven Naismith faces squad selection dilemma

The squad depth at Hearts looks impressive right now after seven summer signings.

Steven Naismith has been getting his ducks in a row early with Gerald Taylor the latest addition to his group. He joins Blair Spittal, Yan Dhanda, Daniel Oyegoke, Musa Drammeh, James Penrice and Ryan Fulton as the Jambos tool up for a crack at the Europa League group stage knowing they have the Conference League as back up, as well as the quest to finish best of the rest in the Premiership once again.

That influx of new blood leaves Naismith well stocked and it's inevitable that some players will move on. That's never a guarantee though and as things stand, a number of established names are facing missing the cut for Naismith's Euro pool. He's allowed no more than 25 names on his A list, and eight of those must be "locally trained" - either club or association trained. Club trained are players who have been with the club between the ages of 15 and 21, while association trained are those who have been with another Scottish club between the same ages.

The B list can include an unlimited number of players, but they must have been born on or after January 1 2003 and been with the club for three years since turning 15. Three goalkeepers must also be in the European squad. Naismith has until 16 to register his playoff squad, and can add two new players after that deadline provided he has enough locally trained players already in there.

As things stand, Craig Gordon is the only club trained player on list A, meaning Naismith can name 22 players on it. Of his 28 man total squad, six will miss out. Record Sport takes a look at who could find themselves watching on at Tynecastle rather than in the thick of it.

The writing appears to be on the wall
