The reasons my Rangers belief is soaring for a Europa League triumph that will be remembered forever - Barry Ferguson

Rangers would have left Celtic Park really disappointed they didn’t turn their second half superiority into the three points that would have kept the title race alive.

But by the time they got back across the city, each and every player’s thoughts will have turned to Thursday night and they’ll know if they replicate the display that had Celtic hanging on for a 1-1 draw, they can beat RB Leipzig and make it to the final of the Europa League.

And that, believe me, would be the achievement of a lifetime for some of these players. Something that would be bettered only by lifting the trophy in Seville on May 18.

That’s the magnitude of Thursday night. For Rangers to have gone from the depths of Progres Niederkorn to the heights of facing Leipzig in the last four of this competition in the space of five years is nothing short of remarkable.

But it doesn’t have to stop now. And I don’t think it will.

The league title might be all but lost, but this can still be a season that is remembered forever and if James Tavernier can go one better than I did 14 years ago by actually hoisting that European trophy into the air, he and his team-mates will be club legends for the rest of time.
