Gypsy Rose Blanchard became a household name in the mid 2010s - and in recent weeks, her popularity has skyrocketed once again. Very soon, a documentary about her life - in her own words - will air in the UK.

The American was thrust into the global spotlight after she conspired, with her then-boyfriend, to kill her mother Dee Dee Blanchard. The 48-year-old was found stabbed to death in the Missouri home she shared with her daughter on June 14, 2015.

23-year-old Gypsy Rose pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and admitted that she and Nicholas Godejohn - who she'd met on a Christian dating website - had planned to end her mother’s life.

It was later uncovered that Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental condition that meant she exaggerated, fabricated and even induced illnesses in her daughter. Dee Dee made out that Gypsy Rose had several chronic conditions - including leukaemia, asthma and muscular dystrophy.

Gypsy Rose was often wheelchair bound, appearing frail yet childlike, dressed in girls' dresses and made to wear large glasses with her head shaven. In 2018, she said she felt more free living in prison than she ever did under her mother’s care.

The 32-year-old was released from prison on December 28 2023, having served eight and a half years of her 10 year sentence. Her former boyfriend Nicholas remains locked up, serving a life sentence without parole.

A new docu-series, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, follows her as she prepares to be released on parole. It will see Gypsy Rose tell her story, in her own words, for the first time.
