The pretty Lake District village named top staycation destination for 2023 by Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor has named a Lake District village as the UK’s top trending destination to visit this spring. Gosforth is a pretty village located on the edge of the national park, just a few miles away from the coast.

The travel website has ranked the visit at number one for fastest growing domestic destinations in its Spring Travel Index. It was followed by Ingoldmells in Skegness, while Borrowdale, also in the Lake District, ranked third.

Gosforth is around a three hour drive from Manchester and it’s the perfect base to explore the surrounding area from. It’s located near to the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys and it’s around five miles from Wast Water, the deepest lake in England.

The village is home to the intriguing Gosforth cross, which is the tallest and oldest Viking cross in England. It’s also a short drive from Ravenglass, known for its Roman Bath House and Muncaster Castle.

Ingoldmells, ranking second, is a coastal village in Lincolnshire and an iconic staycation destination as Butlins was first launched here in the 1930s. Coming in third, Borrowdale in the Lake District is located three miles south of Keswick and sits in a valley with Dewentwater to the north and Scafell Pike to the south.
