Brendan Rodgers confirmed Kyogo Furuhashi needs shoulder surgery but it would rule him out for four months.
The Japanese striker missed the 3-1 Premier Sports Cup win over Hibs with the problem and then watched as his fellow countryman Daizen Maeda came in and netted a brace Rodgers confirmed that Kyogo has been managing the issue long before he came to Celtic and he will leave it up to his frontman to decide whether or not he wants to go under the knife. Rodgers, who will see his team take on Falkirk in the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup, confirmed: “He could have surgery, but it takes him out for probably about four months.
"It’s only him that can decide that because you see a lot of times he gets through games fine. But then times he'll fall, maybe it'll be awkward and he has an irritation. Listen, he's a 29-year-old man now, so he'll understand what he wants to do. But again, he's managed it for a longer period, much longer than he's been at Celtic.
“I gave him the time. We could have had him back into the [Hibs] game, but I gave him the time to miss the game and then I’ll speak to him tomorrow (Monday).”
The problem for Celtic is that they aren’t awash with front-line options. Adam Idah just returned after his summer move from Norwich City and is still finding his feet, although Maeda can also play there. That is the reason why Rodgers still hopes to bring in another striker before the close of the window.
The Celtic manager confirmed “I’m looking at the players that are here now that are working so well with a great focus and very clear on what they're doing. We want to add to it and hopefully, and I'm sure we will do, over the next couple of weeks. “
