The Greater Manchester woodland walk perfect for a chilly day

If you haven’t already dug out your big coat from the back of the wardrobe, you certainly will be getting it out this week as the weather has turned decidedly chilly. Temperatures are set to remain pretty low over the coming days, but it should be dry with some sunny spells forecast for Greater Manchester this week.

With that in mind, why not make the most of the crisp weather with a winter walk? Although the days are shorter, if you can get outside during daylight hours it’s a great way to blow the cobwebs away and boost your mood.

Our parks and green spaces can be just as beautiful at this time of year as they are in the summer, especially if there's a frost There’s still some time to catch some late autumn colours, too.

Nestled in south Manchester, Kenworthy Woods is a wonderful place to go for a walk on a crisp, cold day. It’s a pocket of urban woodland located between Chorlton Water Park and the M60.

Although it looks like an established woodland, Kenworthy Woods is actually one of Manchester’s newest nature reserves. Formerly the site of a tip which was rewilded in the 1990s, the woods was declared a Local Nature Reserve by Manchester City Council in December last year.

The woods covers an expanse of 89 acres and is home to a variety of wildlife, fungi species, flora and fauna. There are trails you can follow through the woods which feels a world away from the nearby M60.

You can also extend your walk by following the River Mersey. Or you can head to Chorlton Water Park and take a stroll around the lake.
