'The GOAT with Lionel Messi' - Manchester United fans react to academy star's Argentina call-up

With Manchester United seriously out of form, it was expected that a number of players would fail to earn international call-ups. That theory held true when Marcus Rashford, David de Gea and shockingly Jadon Sancho were all snubbed by their respective international bosses.

But what came as a shock to many fans was Alejandro Garnacho's call-up to the Argentina senior squad. The winger has been impressing at youth level but is yet to make a first-team appearance for United.

It seems Argentina are making a push to nail down the services of a number of top talents who could represent other countries at international level. Garnacho was born in Spain and has played for their Under-20 side, but qualifies for the South Americans through his mother. Regardless of the reasons why he has earned a call-up, it is still a great honour for the youngster.

With the international break now in full swing, the young winger has joined up with the Argentina squad and fans have been enjoying watching videos of him in training with the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul. But there was only one player United fans really wanted to see Garnacho alongside.

Lionel Messi has made 158 appearances for Argentina and finally won his first international trophy with them last year when he won the Copa America. A lot of football fans consider him the GOAT and it seems that Garnacho shares that view.

Fans were ecstatic as he posted a picture of himself alongside the Paris Saint-Germain forward. Many were quick to point out that Garnacho would be spoilt for choice over who he considers his idol, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi both worthy
