'Always at the bottom' — Manchester United fans react to poor David de Gea stat

Manchester United have been struggling this season but for many fans, David de Gea's shot-stopping form has been a highlight. Many have said that if the Spanish goalkeeper had not been between the sticks, then the club would have been in a worse position in the Premier League.

But a consistent gripe for United fans is De Gea's distribution and how his struggle to pass out from the back can land the lead in trouble. There have been many occasions this season where Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire have won back possession and played it back for the goalkeeper only for him to kick it out of play, or back to the opposition and put United back under pressure.

The extent of how bad this was compared to other players in Europe's top five leagues however was hard to judge for many fans but a social media graphic produced by Victor Renaud showed where De Gea ranked. And it didn't look good for the Spaniard.

The graph (shown below) showed where the players ranked with their pass completion compared to where they were expected to rank and showed players like Ederson, Allison and InSamir Handanovic reign supreme. De Gea however was rock bottom.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Erik ten Hag has been interviewed for the vacant manager position at United and if he was to come through the doors of Old Trafford, it could spell trouble for De Gea. At Ajax, Ten Hag's keeper is a big part of the team's build-up and they need good distribution to do that.
