The Gary Neville takeover prediction he and Manchester United fans will hope doesn't come true

Manchester United fans are becoming more concerned by the lack of progress on the club's takeover.

After it was announced that the Glazers had requested a third round of bids, the process will now drag on further. Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus refused to enter another stage and, whether you think his proposal was a serious contender or not, it highlights the position United find themselves in.

Over the weekend, US private equity firm Carlyle were reported to have shown interest in becoming minority stakeholders at Old Trafford. That led to an angry response from former United man Gary Neville, who demanded only a full sale would do.

Fast forward to Monday and ESPN claimed Joel and Avram Glazer are becoming 'increasingly confident' of staying at United and even double the valuation of the club. While he and many fans will likely be infuriated by these developments, Neville will not be surprised.

Back in February, the former United captain spotted a worrying decision which he felt pointed towards the Reds' ownership remaining in place. He explained in a tweet: "The increase to ticket prices at United is very odd.

"Why would a seller that’s leaving before the next season introduce something that has brought them more hate and they won’t benefit from? Any new buyer would most likely freeze the price in year one to stay onside with fans. It does beg the question whether they are really going. I have my doubts with actions like this one."
