The big Book of Football Cliches says a league campaign is a marathon and not a sprint. But no one seems to have informed Celtic about this old adage.

The Hoops have started the season like it’s an Olympic 100m final – and they have exploded out of the blocks in every game so far. Brendan Rodgers’s side have scored nine goals in three wins to kick-off their campaign – and five of them have come inside the first 20 minutes. In back to back Premiership and Premier Sports Cup clashes with Hibs, the Easter Road outfit were two down before they knew where they were.

Kilmarnock managed to hold out for 17 minutes before the flood gates were crowbarred open. It’s been dizzying stuff for rivals so far and defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has warned there is going to be no let up for anyone else. Celtic are out to show they mean business – and to get the job done as quickly as possible.

It could be a case of catch us if you can as the USA star said: “I think every team wants to do that. If you ask any team, they all want to start quick. In order to do that, you have to be working well day in, day out, and that's what we're focusing on at the moment. Every day of training is tough, and we go out there ready to work, and as long as we keep doing that, we're in a good place.”

The scary thing for the rest is Celtic could have added more goals to their already impressive total so far. Rodgers’s side have had 62 attempts on goal in three games and averages over 75 percent possession.
