The free picnic inside an iconic Manchester building that families will love next month

With August just around the corner and the summer holidays in full swing, some parents might be wondering how to keep their little ones busy in the long school-free weeks ahead.

It can be tricky to find family-friendly activities to do in the city - especially ones that don’t break the bank or require too much travelling. Luckily, the landmark Victoria Baths is ramping up its activities next month for several days of free family fun.

Just a short walk away from Whitworth Park, the Grade II-listed venue opens its doors to all ages every Wednesday (on August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30) from 11am to 3pm. And this August, their ‘Welcome Wednesdays’ feature a whole host of new activities tailored for families in particular.

Kids can let their imaginations run wild at the craft station by the Females Pool, where colourful materials will be available to create artworks inspired by the beautiful stained glass windows and decorations of the historic bathhouse around them. It's worth noting that entry to Welcome Wednesdays and the kids’ craft station are free, but donations are encouraged.

Meanwhile, for the brave and curious, there will also be a ‘Miles of Tiles’ discovery trial. Exciting challenges and quiz questions will lead youngsters aged five and above through a labyrinth of bathhouse rooms. They can even claim a prize at the front desk once they've completed the tour.
