The dilemmas Veljko Paunovic has following Reading’s 2-1 defeat to Bristol City

Reading would have been hoping to secure a morale-boosting victory in their showdown with Bristol City yesterday.

However, the Royals slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Robins as they failed to deliver the goods on their travels.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring at Ashton Gate for Nigel Pearson’s side as he fired home from close range.

The hosts then increased their lead over Reading in the 47th minute as Michael Morrison diverted Cameron Pring’s cross into his own net.

The Royals pulled a goal back thanks to John Swift’s penalty but were unable to find an equaliser in the closing stages of the game.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the dilemmas that Reading boss Veljko Paunovic is facing following his side’s latest defeat…

How can Paunovic solve Reading’s woeful defensive record?

Since the turn of the year, Reading’s defensive displays in all competitions have been nothing short of shambolic.

The Royals have conceded at least two goals in each of their last eight games which is an unacceptable return.

Having opted to utilise Michael Morrison, Tom Holmes, Baba Rahman and Andy Yiadom in a back-four last night, Paunovic may decide to alter his starting eleven in Reading’s upcoming fixtures in a bid to solve this particular issue.

Will Reading’s woeful form in the Championship continue after this latest defeat?

Reading have now lost six games in a row in the Championship and will be devoid of confidence heading into their meeting with Coventry City this weekend.

In desperate need of a victory to avoid the possibility of losing further ground to the likes of Derby County and Peterborough United in the battle for survival, the Royals will need Swift to be at his very best at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
