The dilemmas facing Scott Parker this summer transfer window at AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth are heading towards a steep challenge to stay up in the Premier League next season.

Scott Parker expertly guided the Cherries to automatic promotion in 2021/22, in the end, but results and performances did suffer a drastic drop-off in the second half of the season.

Kieffer Moore’s form towards the back end of the campaign will give Parker food for thought in terms of his attacking contingent, as they will have to create more and higher quality chances to ruffle some feathers in the top-flight next term.

Here, we have taken a look at three dilemmas facing Parker this summer window at Bournemouth…

Backup goalkeeper

Mark Travers is unproven at Premier League level, but has earned the right to be first choice for his performances this season.

The Irishman kept Freddie Woodman out of the team, and therefore there is a conundrum in terms of the strength of the backup keeper they should bring in.

The Cherries could opt for an experienced option who could have a positive influence on the dressing room, for example Ben Foster, or a glovesman who would actually challenge for the number one spot during pre-season.

Central midfield cover

At the moment, Jefferson Lerma feels like the only central midfielder at Bournemouth who could hold his own in the top-flight on a consistent basis.

Lewis Cook has had experience there but never excelled, while Ben Pearson and Gavin Kilkenny could be risky selections.

With Philip Billing taking on a more advanced role in the last season and a half, the Cherries need to invest in some better cover in midfield, to help them stay in games against higher quality opposition.

Winger recruitment

Parker needs to decide what type of wingers he wants to bring into the club this summer.
