"The conversations I have with people" - Charlie Eccleshare drops Spurs claim on £200k-p/w star

Tottenham are going to find it “very hard” to find a buyer for Tanguy Ndombele this summer, believes Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

The midfielder does not appear to be a part of Antonio Conte’s first-team plans, but selling him could prove difficult due to his wages and the lack of funds in other leagues, making a loan move more likely.

According to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), Ndombele is a midfield target for AC Milan.

The Frenchman was left out of Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Southampton on Saturday and spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Lyon, so he is clearly far from Conte’s thinking right now.

The north London club spent a lot of money to bring Ndombele to Hotspur Way back in 2019, agreeing an initial £53.8m deal with Lyon to sign him.

He is also believed to be on £200,000 a week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is obviously a lot of money for a player currently outside of the first-team picture.

It is evident that a parting of the ways is in everyone’s best interest, but Eccleshare says any sort of permanent deal is difficult because clubs around Europe simply do not have the money.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, The Athletic journalist said: “I think it’s going to be a loan. I can’t see anyone paying a fee or certainly not a significant fee. He’s on big wages, so even that is a stretch for a lot of teams.

“The conversations I have with people who work in football recruitment and that sort of thing, what they always stress is that we underestimate how badly the Spanish league, French league, Italian league have been hit by Covid compared to the Premier League, which is insulated, to an extent, by the huge TV deal. So it’s very hard to get teams to pay the kind of
