The concerning response to restaurant's candid post after one of 'quietest days ever'

A restaurant has shared they have experienced "one of the quietest days" they've ever had in a bid to reassure struggling businesses that they are not alone.

Catch 22 Brasserie in Anglesey, Wales shared the candid post on their social media page amid the hospitality industry's ongoing crisis.

In the first three months of 2024 alone, growing numbers of prominent restaurants in Wales have announced their closures amid the perfect storm of changes to business rates and the increased cost of living. And for those who are managing to stay afloat, it seems that footfall is lower than ever, WalesOnline reports.

In their post, the family run restaurant said on Friday: "Just in case any other hospitality businesses need to hear this - yesterday was one of the quietest days we have ever had at the restaurant. We don't really know why it happened, but we thought it might be some comfort to others that may also be having a tough time to know that you're not the only one.”

In response, fellow independent businesses also shared similar concerns. Replying to the post on Facebook, BishopsGate House Hotel said: "We have been on the Island for 25 years and never been through such a quiet time as we have in the last four or five weeks", while restaurant Theodore's said: "We have also been quiet the last couple of days . We threw in a couple of midweek deals and to be honest it didn't make much difference but we have to all try. Hopefully everyone will have that Friday feeling today and keep us all busy. Have a great weekend guys."
