The city restaurant named ‘best in Manchester’ at the British Restaurant Awards

The British Restaurant Awards took place in London last night, with one Manchester restaurant being named the best in the city. Gaucho, the Argentinian chain steakhouse, was the city centre spot that scooped the gong.

The celeb fave restaurant on St Mary’s Street, a converted church, opened back in 2015, and won the accolade in a public vote. It’s the fourth year that the awards have taken place, with nominees from the hospitality industry heading to the Porchester Hall in London.

Another local winner was the Peter Street Kitchen, which won the award for Best Culinary Experience. Meanwhile, Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant Chotto Matte won the award for Best International Cuisine.

The chain will be opening its first UK restaurant outside of London next year at St Michael’s, the new development being spearheaded by Gary Neville. Nearby, Best Restaurant in Liverpool went to Lerpwl and Best Restaurant in Bradford went to Cafe J’Adore.

Elsewhere, Italian chef and restaurateur Aldo Zilli won Best Chef and Jean Christophe Novelli won the Queen Elizabeth Lifetime Achievement Award. He said: “The British Restaurant Awards is the single most important awards show in the food and drinks industry here in the UK and it is an honour to be honoured for all my years in the culinary business. I would like to thank the BRA Team and everyone who continues to support everything I do.”

Bet Luxury Restaurant went to The Ritz in London, while Restaurant of the Year went to chef ROhit Ghai’s modern Indian Kutir in Chelsea. You can head to the British Restaurant Awards website for a full list of winners.
