Gary Neville gushes about 'best pasties in the world' as he visits bakery with Amir Khan

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has professed his love for historic Bolton bakery Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe.

The local institution has been part of the town since the 17th Century and the recipe has remained the same since it was taken over by the Walsh family during the reign of Queen Victoria. On the latest episode of his YouTube series, The Overlap, Gary visited the bakery with boxer Amir Khan.

Despite growing up in Bolton, it was Amir's first ever visit to the store, but Gary said that his parents used to bring him when he was a child. The former England defender, who grew up in Bury, described the pasties as "hand-crafted pieces of art".

"[It is] the most famous shop in Bolton, it’s been here 1667," he added. “I’ve been coming here since the age of six or seven with my mum and dad and it’s unbelievable. These are the best pasties in the world.”

Gary and Amir jokingly asked owner Marie Walsh if she wanted partners in the business and she laughed: "I don't think so".

Marie, 84, told the Manchester Evening News: "Gary's mother and father used to run Bury FC and we used to supply them on Saturdays. He used to come with his mum as a little boy.

"He came and did his question and answer with Amir and was waving this pasty in the air saying 'look what I've got'. We've been really busy since that!

"Sophie Willan from Alma's Not Normal always comes as well and we've had her filming in, as well as Red Rose on BBC."

Last year, popular YouTube channel Rate My Takeaway visited Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe and awarded it a coveted perfect rating of 10 out of 10. Host Danny Malin also described the pasties as the 'best he'd ever tasted'.
