The Chase lawyers intervene after Bradley Walsh mistakes
The Chase, ITV's hit quiz show, has been a staple in UK homes for nearly 15 years. The format is simple: four contestants team up to take on some of the nation's sharpest minds, hoping to outsmart the Chasers and win a hefty cash prize.
It's become one of the most beloved quiz shows on television, with a loyal fanbase tuning in religiously. While the show typically runs without a hitch, host Bradley Walsh has revealed that it's not always plain sailing.
Since he doesn't see the questions before the contestants, there's no rehearsal, which can lead to on-air errors. When this happens, the show's legal team steps in immediately, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Bradley, 64, previously told Radio Times: "If there is a slight misread, I am stopped immediately, bang, by the lawyers."
He explained the rigorous process involved when a mistake occurs: "We have the compliance lawyers in the studio all the time. What you have to do is go back to the start of the question, literally on video tape where my mouth opens, or where it's closed from the previous question, and the question is re-asked."
He added: "It is stopped to the split second." Bradley also highlighted the intense pace required on the show, revealing that it takes him just 3.6 to 4 seconds on average to ask a question.
He explained: "You have to be at such a speed: if you're a contestant and I go 'what's... the capital... of France... ' they'd be dead and buried in thirty seconds. I have to make sure they get up to speed and they're getting about 18 or 19 questions answered correctly."
