Met Office weather maps forecast exact date snow will return to UK next week
After a brief break from snowy and icy weather, freezing conditions are expected to return next week, according to the Met Office.
The forecaster has warned that some parts of the country are to get some more snow and hail next week. Heavy rain is also expected across most of the UK.
Looking at the start of next week, the UK weather agency said: "A cloudy outlook through the start of the new working week, with showery rain spreading erratically eastwards. Temperatures generally around average in the north, but chilly further south."
According to the Met Office weather map, snow is forecast to return to parts of Scotland on Wednesday, January 22, hitting the north of Scotland first, before moving down to near Glasgow and Dumfries. There is expected to be some snow in Fort William, Loch Rannoch and Biggar, but there is not expected to be significant disruption caused by the weather.
Elsewhere in the UK, it is expected to be a fairly wet, drizzly week across the country. From Sunday, the UK weather agency has forecast: "Cloudy with occasional spots of drizzle through Sunday afternoon becoming more frequent and widespread on Monday and Tuesday. Feeling chilly with overnight frosts possible."
Unlike the first few weeks of 2025, there are currently no weather warnings in place, however the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) yellow cold health warning remains in place until January 21.
The UKHSA cold weather warning is issued when illnesses, accidents and deaths are more likely to occur due to the cold conditions. People are urged to check on vulnerable or elderly family members and neighbours to help keep everyone safe and healthy.
More cold weather payments were issued earlier this week, January 16, by the Department of Work
