'The best I have ever seen him' - Analyst blown away by 'insanely good' Everton ace

Analyst David Hughes has praised Jordan Pickford for his impressive performances that have earnt Everton vital points in recent weeks.

Everton have struggled this season in the Premier League and they now sit two points above the drop zone, but they have a game in hand over Leeds, so they could steer five points clear with a victory in that game.

Despite the poor defensive record of Everton this season, they have lost just one out of their last six games and Hughes has highlighted on The All Together Now Everton Podcast how important the England international has been for them in this good run of form.

(15;42) “Pickford for example, Pickford has been insanely good in these past few weeks, the best I have ever seen him,” Hughes said.

TIF Thoughts on David Hughes’s comments…

Although it is important not to judge just the goalkeeper for a team’s defensive record, Pickford has not been in the best form this season, in the Premier League, he has the 5th most goals conceded on average per game (1.5) and the 15th most clean sheets in the league (7), as per Sofascore.

However, in recent weeks, he has turned things around and was awarded a player rating of 8.1 against Chelsea and 8 against Leicester in Everton’s two victories, as well as keeping a clean sheet last night.

The English goalkeeper’s form has come at the right time for the Toffees, and if they want to remain in the top flight of English football, then Pickford will have to continue this fine form in the remaining four games that they have left of the season.
