The beautiful village with miles of sandy beaches an hour from Greater Manchester

A 'truly beautiful' seaside village that is just an hour's drive from Greater Manchester has become a big hit with visitors.

Talacre, in Flintshire, North Wales, is probably best known for its lighthouse, which has seen a number of ghostly sightings over the year. However, it also boasts miles of sandy beaches and classic seaside activities, meaning it is perfect if you're looking for something family-friendly.

Situated near the Point of Ayr on the west side of the River Dee estuary, the village leads on to a sprawling sandy beach which is ideal for winter walks and summer days, with a backdrop of sand dunes that offer beautiful coastal views.

If you're looking for nostalgic fun, the village has a number of amusement arcades, including Leisureland and Sandancer, where families can enjoy classics like the penny drops and evasive claw grabber machines, all followed by a bag of chips and an ice cream cone.

There are also a number of walking routes that start or end at Talacre, with different difficulty levels and distances depending on who is joining you on your route, the Liverpool Echo reports.

One option is a coastal walk from Prestayn to Talacre Beach, which follows the Wales Coast Path into Flintshire and ends at the lighthouse - the most northern point of mainland Wales.

The Point of Ayr Lighthouse was erected in 1776 as a warning to ships on the Welsh side of the entrance to the Dee Estuary. It was decommissioned in 1884 and has been owned privately for a long time since. And while the structure now stands in the middle of the beach, it used to be surrounded by dunes which have shifted over time.

Visitors to the village claim to have seen a figure wearing old-fashioned lighthouse keeper clothes standing in front
