The amazing park in the heart of Manchester you need to visit this half term

Although February half term may nearly be over, there’s still the weekend left to enjoy. If your kids have got energy to burn up then a park is one of the best places to take them.

Luckily in Greater Manchester we have dozens to choose from and many have been loved by families for years. But there’s one park which you may not have been to yet as it’s not even a year old.

Mayfield Park is the city’s newest park and it only opened in September last year - so this is the first February half term you’ll be able to visit it. Tucked between Piccadilly Station and Trinity Way, the park has breathed new life into a derelict part of the city.

Covering a 6.5 acre site, it is on the small side but it's perfectly formed with landscape areas, walkways, grassy lawns and bridges crossing the River Medlock which flows through it. But what really makes this park special is its incredible play area.

There are huge metal spaceship-looking structures with slides descending from them, which are inspired by chimneys from Manchester’s industrial past. Mayfield Park boasts seven slides in total, including one which even takes people over the river.

Kids can spend hours exploring the play area as among the slides there are tunnels, swings, sunken trampolines, a climbing wall and a roundabout - there’s no danger of them being bored.

Mayfield Park is open from dawn until dusk. Boardman Gate Entrance, Baring Street, M1 2PY.
