The Alexandra Hospital has been providing innovative heart surgery for over 40 years

Nestled among the trees along a leafy lane in Cheadle, The Alexandra Hospital stands proud as the flagship hospital of Circle Health Group, awarded the UK’s leading private hospital group in the LaingBuisson Awards 2021. The Alexandra has a long-standing reputation for complex and lifesaving surgery, and it's at the cutting edge of heart surgery.

For 40 years ‘The Alex’, as it is affectionately known, has been fixing broken hearts - literally. Thousands of patients have undergone cardiac surgery inside its walls during that time, and the consistency of care and expertise that they have experienced brings more through the door every year.

According to the online data from the PHIN (Private Health Information Network), last year more patients chose to have their CABG surgery (a surgical procedure used to treat coronary heart disease) at The Alexandra than at any other UK private hospital outside of London.

After 40 years, The Alexandra Hospital continues to be as agile and innovative as possible. Among the hospital’s relatively new services is a minimally invasive procedure, known as endoscopic mitral valve surgery, performed using 3D technology.

It can be utilised to perform either mitral valve replacement or mitral valve repair through a type of keyhole surgery. Featured in online news during January of this year, The Alex offers this service using 3D endoscopy to help give the medical team greater light, depth and magnification when carrying out this procedure.

Patients are normally discharged and able to return home an average of five days after their operation. The Alexandra Hospital usually then invites them to follow-up appointments scheduled three weeks, eight weeks and six months following their surgery.
