The advice Sir Alex Ferguson offered to Man Utd before brutal axe as Thomas Tuchel forces major rethink

Sir Alex Ferguson has been informed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe that his ambassadorial role at Manchester United will come to an end after this season - but has still had his say on the next boss at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has faced a challenging time this term, following on from last season's struggles. Despite surviving a summer review and significant investment in the squad, United find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Their performance after seven games marks their worst start to a season ever, piling pressure on the Ajax boss. He has survived the international break amid reports Thomas Tuchel was being considered - before his appointment as England manager.

Now, despite Sir Alex being shown the door and losing out on a £2million-a-year salary it is reported that he has given the INEOS owner his recommendation for Ten Hag's successor. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferguson has already endorsed former Juventus boss Max Allegri. Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are reassessing their options, especially since Thomas Tuchel, reportedly their first choice, has now been secured by England.
