The 5 real Rangers men and one who was built for WAR that left no need for Celtic team talk

Graeme Souness was treated to an acting masterclass when he watched Bernard Hill go from a luvvy to a lunatic in less than five seconds.

But the Ibrox legend is hoping it’s the Rangers squad who can quickly get into character at Celtic Park this weekend and rip up the Premiership title script. Souness – who was back in Glasgow on Sunday night to receive the PFA Scotland special merit award – has fond memories of British acting great Hill, who passed away at the weekend at the age of 79, having shared one of British TV’s most iconic scenes.

Hill played Scouse hardman Yosser Hughes in the classic 80’s drama Boys from the Blackstuff – who was a Souness lookalike, complete with the perm and moustache. The Liverpool hero’s cameo when the pair went head to head went down in history and is doing the rounds on social media again following the death of the actor who also starred in the likes of Titanic and Lord of the Rings.

Souness said: “He was a wonderful actor and he was very kind to myself and Sammy Lee at the times we met him. He was very generous with his time. Although I think we managed to do it in two takes.

"I remember sitting with him and the director in the morning having a coffee and being nice, pally Bernard Hill and in five seconds he became Yosser Hughes – which was quite scary! I didn’t need any acting tips as I found it very easy – because I was playing myself!”

There was nothing pretend about Souness the player, that was for sure. And this weekend there is no place to hide among the extras either for Philippe Clement's men. The former Gers player manager knows you can’t act the part in Old Firm games – and there’s no second takes if you fluff your lines.

Souness said: “It takes character to win these games.
