Driver who was banned for killing teenage cyclist led cops on 100mph chase

This was the moment a driver who had previously killed a teenage cyclist led police on a 100mph chase in a BMW stolen from Manchester. Leo Meek mowed down 15-year-old Jack Jones while travelling at up to 55mph on a 30mph road in April 2021, before fleeing the scene.

He was handed a 40-month sentence for death by dangerous driving in August 2021 and disqualified from driving for three years from the date of his release. But on July 19 last year, Meek was back out on the road, leading cops on a reckless pursuit through Cheshire.

Cheshire Police says that on that afternoon, an officer in an unmarked vehicle spotted a white BWM M135i that was suspected as stolen, on Rivacre Road in Ellesmere Port. As the officer caught up to the BMW, the driver made a sudden turn and started to speed up, despite the police activating their blue lights.

Meek, who was later identified as the man behind the wheel, overtook multiple vehicles and tailgated them to force them to pull over. He picked up speeds of more than 100mph along winding narrow roads, more than double the 40mph speed limit.

Having lost sight of the car due to the excess speed, the officer turned a corner to find the BMW had crashed on the bridge above the M53. The car had hit the barrier with such force it had dented it, and in doing so prevented it from falling onto the motorway below.

The driver had already fled the scene, abandoning his front seat passenger. There was extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle, which was confirmed to have been stolen the previous week from Manchester.
