The 25 Greater Manchester surnames that could land you a fortune in unclaimed estates

Relatives of people who have passed without leaving a will could be eligible to inherit cash through unclaimed estates.

Across the UK there are more than 6,000 unclaimed estates, with a number in Greater Manchester. The latest list of unclaimed estates, updated in December 2023, has now been released by the Treasury Solicitor and includes people who have died in local communities in our region.

But time is of the essence as some of them are nearing their 30-year limit for making a claim. If the estates remain unclaimed the assets will pass to the Crown.

When a person dies without making a will, in most cases their estate will pass to their next of kin. But this is not always a simple process, especially if no surviving relative comes forward or can be found. In these cases, spouses, civil partners and close relatives may be able to collect the estate, though they may sometimes have to provide evidence of their relationship.

Here is the list of family names of people in Greater Manchester whose estates are unclaimed, as of December 11 2023. If you think that you might have a claim, visit the Gov.UK website for more information.
