The 10 most substituted players in the Premier League this season

So it’s five substitutions per team from next season in the Premier League. Sure, it might be yet another small but significant shift towards making everything favour the bigger sides, but on the other hand… QUINTUPLE SUBSTITUTIONS! Yeah, it’s totally worth it.

We do enjoy that the decision that three wasn’t quite enough substitutes has led the Premier League to jump straight to five which most people think is too many while apparently refusing to acknowledge the existence of a number between those two. 10. Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal) – 14

The 30-year-old is on a fine run currently, his minutes in his last eight Premier League games reading: 78, 80, 88, 80, 90, 84, 81 and 90.

9. Armando Broja (Southampton) – 14

Ralph Hasenhuttl on Broja: "When you come in as a new player and perhaps surprise everybody with the qualities that you have, the Premier League is not stupid, they [other clubs and their players] look at you and they know quickly what your qualities are."

8. Tom Cleverley (Watford) – 14

Hands up, and be honest, if you’re startled to discover Cleverley has played often enough to even pick up 14 substitutions this season. Come off it. Liars. Fourteen substitutions from 17 starts is certainly efficient if nothing else.

7. Hwang hee-chan (Wolves) – 14

Has been on the field for the first and last whistles of just two of Wolves’ 30 Premier League games this season – a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and 1-1 draw against Leeds.

6. Francisco Trincao (Wolves)
