The £1 Splash park is open for summer and sessions can be booked online

A popular seaside splash park has reopened for the summer and families can book their £1 sessions online.

We reported last month how the Splash zone, in Lytham St Annes' Promenade Gardens, was reopening for the sunny season.

There was some anger about a £1 fee being introduced for the first time, but it was largely centred around the fact that payments were being taken on the day, meaning families could end up driving there, to find no slots available.

But thankfully visitors can now book in advance, to make sure their spaces are reserved.

The £1 fee is per child for each session, there is no charge for accompanying adults.

Bookings can be made online up to 48 hours in advance of the sessions, which run five times a day seven days a week - starting at 10am, 11.15am, 12.30pm, 1.45pm and 3pm.

Aimed at children aged three to 12, Splash opened in 2019 and offers a range of features including spray loops, water sprays, bucket drops, water domes and a small section for paddling.

The council issued a statement on its website about the fee introduction, saying: "The fee of £1 was chosen to ensure that the facility is affordable to all, with similar private beach activities charging significantly higher rates and pricing many visitors out.

"The £1 payment only applies to the children using the facility; there is no charge for accompanying adults.

"The revenue from the small charge will contribute towards the ongoing costs of operating the Splash Park and ensuring its continued sustainability.

"The facility has a restricted capacity and could get booked quickly. The health and safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority."
