'That was a tough one' - Trent Alexander-Arnold opens up on Man United win over Liverpool FC

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained how Manchester United managed to beat his side at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Erik ten Hag's first Premier League victory will certainly be one to remember. Goals either side of half-time from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford ensured that a late Mohamed Salah header was merely a consolation for Jurgen Klopp's side.

After losing their first two games to Brighton and Brentford, United have now gone on a four-game winning streak in the league. Following the win over Liverpool, Ten Hag's side have added victories against Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal.

United only had 29 per cent possession during the 2-1 win over Liverpool, as Ten Hag showed his adaptability - something that is vital if a manager is to succeed in the Premier League. His side hit Liverpool on the counter, a tactic which would also be used in the 3-1 victory over Arsenal. Alexander-Arnold has now given his verdict on the defeat and identified where it all went wrong for Liverpool.

Speaking on Red Bull's 'We Go Again', he said: "Us lads, we were speaking about it in terms of it could go either way. They’d just come off the back of 4-0, Brentford I think. And it was like, no matter what they have to try and win the game against us.

"It’s either, it could end up like last year where it’s 5-0 again and they crumble after we get an early goal and whatever, or they’ll be able to perform and they’ll do well.

"In fairness to them, they played well. Yeah, that was just a tough one, we had our chances. We just got hit on counter-attacks and got punished really."
