Telling Hull City statistic highlights key area for improvement next season
The takeover of Hull City in January ushered in a new era for the club and excitement inside the MKM Stadium was tangible when new owner Acun Ilıcalı was introduced to the crowd before the win over Blackburn Rovers. The fortnight that followed was just as exhilarating, as the Tigers secured a surprise win away at AFC Bournemouth before making it back-to-back home wins with a 2-0 victory over Swansea City.
All three of those fixtures took place in January and since that win over Swansea, City have not won at home once. For all the promise shown on the road, the Tigers have not been able to make the MKM Stadium a fortress and an alternative version of the Championship table makes for frustrating reading.
As highlighted on Twitter by Hull City supporter Andy Steele, the Tigers would be sat in 10th if only points picked up away from home counted. It provides a stark contrast to their actual position, which is two places above the relegation zone in 20th. They have picked up six wins and five draws away from the MKM Stadium, a better record than the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Millwall and Coventry City, all of which are currently placed in the top half of the Championship.

A table which discards points from away matches is even more alarming, as it shows City in 23rd and level on points with rock-bottom Peterborough United, who are now led by former Tigers boss Grant McCann. Their 12 league defeats at home this season is the highest number in the second tier, although Cardiff City are running them close with 11 home losses.
