Tell us what you think about the rail strikes

Rail strikes across the country began on Tuesday, with around 40,000 workers taking action with the RMT Union over a number of issues including pay, job security and working conditions.

Train stations across Manchester were left looking bare as only around a fifth of train services ran on Tuesday, with services at 60% capacity on Wednesday from the previous day's knock-on effects.

With workers going on strike again today and services again at only about one fifth capacity, we want to know what your thoughts are on the rail strikes.

Many people in our comments sections have come out in favour of the workers on the divisive issue, with one person arguing: "I still find it bizarre that even when the capital owning classes rake in millions each year, people still come out to bat for them time and time again.

"It's like a badly treated dog returning to it's owner every time."

Another reader said: "You cannot continue to make hundreds of millions in profit every year and expect your workers to just roll over and accept less than inflation pay rises.

"Power to the workers!"

However, not everyone was in favour, with one person on Facebook commenting: "More businesses losing income because of the strike, accept what you have been offered everyone is suffering after the last few years."

But many were still supportive, with another person responding: "Fully support this strike. Don't forget these front line workers was heroes in the pandemic now just because they want a fair pay rise in line with inflation they are the enemy of the government."
