Teenage Huddersfield Town starlet to join up with Northern Ireland senior international squad

Huddersfield Town prospect Brodie Spencer has been called up to a senior Northern Ireland international training camp just a week after the double celebration of winning the Terriers' academy player of the year award and his 18th birthday.

After joining from Belfast-based side Cliftonville in 2020, the right-back this year skipped Town's under-19 age group to go straight into the B team and had an outstanding season playing under Jon Worthington, as well as representing his country three times at under-19 level.

He will now get his first taste of being around the senior international setup as he joins a training camp led by Northern Ireland manager Ian Barraclough at St George's Park next week in preparation for their UEFA Nations League games next month.

Spencer is one of several younger players brought into the senior fold for the training camp, with Barraclough saying: "It will enable the younger players to showcase what they’re all about and increase their experience of international football with the senior team coaches and players."

Town academy manager Emyr Humphreys last week said of Spencer's academy player of the year award win: “Brodie thoroughly deserves this award for all his hard work both on and off the pitch this season.

"He’s a prime example of the way we want our academy players to conduct themselves - he embodies the competitive attitude that we want to see from all our players, and he combines that with a massive appetite to learn and improve."
