Lee Nicholls named Huddersfield Town player of the year in landslide vote victory
Goalkeeper Lee Nicholls has been overwhelmingly voted as Huddersfield Town’s Hargreaves Memorial Trophy Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season.
The summer signing from Milton Keynes Dons took a whopping 73% of the 2,267 votes cast via Yorkshire Live after a phenomenal campaign that also saw Nicholls named in the Championship team of the season. The keeper racked up 19 clean sheets across his 46 appearances in the league and in the end-of-season play-offs to play a key role in the side’s third-place finish and march to Wembley.
Nicholls is the first goalkeeper to win the club’s player of the year award since Nico Vaesen in 1999 and joins such club luminaries as Tom Cowan, Andy Booth, Jordan Rhodes and Christopher Schindler on the roll of honour.
Sorba Thomas came second in this year’s vote after enjoying a fabulous breakout season that saw him lead the side’s assist charts and earn his first international honours for Wales. 2020 winner Lewis O’Brien came third, marking the third year in a row he has been voted into the top three.
Congratulations to Lee Nicholls on his deserved honours and thank you to everyone who took the time to cast their vote!
