Teenage boy rushed to hospital after being 'hit by car' at busy crossroads

A teenage boy has been rushed to hospital after reportedly being hit by a car near a busy junction. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the incident on Hope Road, close to Northenden Road, in Sale this evening (May 19).

North West Ambulance Service has confirmed it was called out to Hope Road at 5.37pm. A rapid response vehicle was sent out along with an ambulance.

The teenager was taken to hospital with a leg injury following the incident. The youngster's injuries were described as not life threatening.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. Sale residents who witnessed the incident described it as serious and repeated calls for improved road safety measures in the area.

Coun Barry Brotherton, who represents the area on Trafford Council, told the Manchester Evening News : "That junction is dodgy - you've got to keep your wits about you there. Speeding on Hope Road and the general way people behave on the road has been a problem for years.

"It is a difficult junction, people come at you from different directions. There were calls for a zebra crossing there but because it's a on a junction there can't be one there."

Coun Brotherton added he would discuss the incident with officers at Trafford Council. Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
