Teen cyclist hit by car while being 'chased by bullies' - before one 'tried to steal bike' as he lay injured

A family have spoken of their horror after a 13-year-old cyclist was hit by a car while being 'chased by bullies'. The Manchester Evening News reported last Thursday (May 19) that a teenager had been rushed to hospital with a leg injury after being hit by a car on Hope Road, in Sale.

Now, the brave youngster's family has come forward and described the moment the teenager was injured while 'panicking' as he tried to escape a group of four youths who chased him while wearing school uniform. The boy, whose family have asked not to be named, is currently on crutches after leaving hospital - but thankfully did not suffer any broken bones.

His granddad told the M.E.N. the group spotted the boy's bike and were determined to steal it from him - even approaching him while hurt on the ground.

"He had been to the shops and was riding his bike," he said. "He always rides slowly and with his hands on the brake just in case. These four lads saw the bike and started saying 'come here'. They were only kids but they don't seem to behave like kids nowadays - they are vulgar.

"He said he wasn't able to stay on the pavement because there were people coming up, so he had to ride his bike in the road. He was panicking and as he turned right, the car crashed into him.

"Even when he was unconscious one of the thugs went up and tried to take the bike away from him - it's disgusting, disgraceful. He's a footballer but it's just as well the season is over as he won't be playing for a while."
